Part 1: The myth of “the python” became a giant… a beauty
That Son area is not only famous and mysterious with Taoists appearing and disappearing in the forest, martial arts masters, demonizing spirits, cobras as big as old palm trees, but also countless other strange things. weird, weird again.
During the days of researching in That Son area, reporters collected countless strange and unbelievable stories. The stories are legendary, but as if they are real, they are topical in this mysterious area of That Son.
According to Taoist Ba Luoi, the only living Taoist monk who is now 100 years old, monastic in Cam mountain (the highest mountain in That Son area, in An Hao commune, Tinh Bien, An Giang), in the past that Son area dense forest, only wild animals live.

Except for the Taoist masters of martial arts, no one dared to enter the forest to make a living.
This place not only has the usual yellow-striped tigers, but also countless white and black tigers.
Black tigers, white tigers are extremely ferocious, as big as buffaloes, and they roam around in the forest. Black tigers, white tigers can grab a buffalo and jump on the stone mallets.
Giant Reptile
The giant reptile, the cloud tiger, tens of meters long, with a large body that can’t be hugged, rushing like a thunderstorm on the treetops, everyone knows, everyone tells, but there is no concrete evidence of its existence. its. This animal is more of a myth than a fact.
But, there is a real giant reptile in That Son area which is the other half. The people of That Son area are afraid of the other half and they often call it “the python”. The reason, people call it like that, because the larva is very large, aggressive and extremely poisonous.

According to Taoist Ba Luoi, 40-50 years ago, there were a lot of women in Cam mountain. The giant halves are as big as jaggery trees, full of arms, up to 20 meters long, weighing 400 to 500 kg.
With such a huge body, they can swallow buffaloes and cows. Her favorite food is crocodile. In the past, they used to go down to rivers and lagoons to hunt crocodiles.
They have a python-like shape, but the skin color is slightly yellow, even golden. A particularly recognizable feature is that it has up to 9 nostrils. In fact, out of those 9 holes, only 2 are real, the remaining 7 are fake, just a hollow in the nose.
The species moves both on trees and on the ground. When they move on the ground, they stick their heads down instead of slightly raising them like pythons.

Up in the tree, the python moves slowly, but the half-moon rushes like a thunderstorm, like a giant cloud tiger. Therefore, those who do not know about snakes, have never met these two species, often confuse the rattan tiger with the other.
According to Taoist priest Ba Luoi, along with pythons, halves are hunted a lot by people, so they are increasingly rare. In recent years, in That Son, there are no longer giant species weighing a few hundred kilograms, but only ones weighing around 100 kilograms have been caught.
Former teacher Doan Hoang Quan, who lives at the foot of Cam mountain, affirmed that he had witnessed with his own eyes a group of hunters in Cam mountain shooting and killing a giant half-moon, weighing about 300kg.
It was 1985, when he was 15 years old. Hearing the sound of gunshots, the people of An Hao commune ran out to see. Moments later, he saw a group of people cheering to pull the carcass of a giant larva from the forest, to cross the road. The highway was so wide, half stretched, and its head and tail were still in the trench.
The guy Quan at that time was brave and recklessly rushed to hug his daughter and saw enough of an arm. Its trunk should be the size of an old palm tree.
This group of people use knives to peel the skin, discharge the meat, divide it for the whole hamlet to bring home to cook. When dissecting its belly, people counted 5 wild boars in its stomach. Not to mention the countless pig hairs, pig bones still in its stomach, undigested.
After that incident, no one caught the giant half anymore, but only caught pythons, half weighing around 100kg. The story of catching pythons, half above and below 100kg in That Son is quite common. Forest rangers have also released such large pythons (obtained from wildlife traders) into the forest.
The Legend of “Python”
There is a story about this species, which the people of the Cam mountain still tell to this day as a beautiful legend of That Son region.
It happened almost 100 years ago. At that time, the area of Cay Que Palace, with many caves and few people going in and out, was the hiding place of the giant rattan and tiger.
It is also rumored that, behind the palace, there is an old cinnamon tree that gives off a fragrant aroma, so the pair of “principles” are always wrapped in tangerines on the tree. That pair of pythons are giant halves.
Every time the Cam Mountain takes place a festival, worshiping the royal family, the beautiful face like flowers, white skin like pomelo flowers, from the cinnamon tree flies down to the palace.

Seeing the beauty, sentient beings all clasped their hands and bowed. After the worshiping ceremony was over, that wonderful beauty turned back to Cay Que Palace and disappeared. People in the area believe that this beauty is the female python, which means the half has become a chimpanzee.
Taoist Ba Luoi said that this species not only has a huge body, weighing hundreds of kilograms, but it is also extremely poisonous. Its venom can kill dozens of buffaloes and cows. Even elephants also died with the bite and poison release of the other.
The fact that many people in Thien Tue hamlet were poisoned is still a topical issue at the foot of Cam mountain.
Cam mountain.
Accordingly, 30 years ago, some Khmer people went to the forest to hunt and discovered a giant half-moon, more than 10m long, lying on a tree, right behind Van Linh pagoda.
The other half was too big, so this group of people called more villagers to surround them. Up to 20 people, with knives, sticks, ropes attacked the other half.
They clipped it to long trees, so it wouldn’t wrap around, and carried it down the mountain. That day, the whole hamlet cut meat to eat.
While drinking jubilantly, a few people vomited blood and died. A total of 5 people lost their lives because of poisoned meat. The whole village thought they had to eat “the python”, so they were too afraid to ask the teacher to set up a table to worship.
The story of people in the hamlet being poisoned is told by the elderly and this story is still a topical issue at the foot of Cam Mountain. Therefore, people in the area do not dare to eat meat anymore.
