The Quebrada de Humahuaca is a narrow mountain valley located in the province of Jujuy in northwest Argentina, 1,649 km (1,025 mi) north of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is about 155 km (96 mi) long, oriented north-south, bordered by the Altiplano in the west and north, by the Sub-Andean hills in the east, and by the warm valleys (Valles Templados) in the south.

The Yesera Formation (in the photo) consists of a succession of colored layers deposited during the Late Cretaceous. The formation is made up of conglomerate, sandstone and siltstone, and it accumulated in a fluvial environment such as alluvial fan.

These strata were underground for thousands of years, when the formation of the mountains did with his long process, the effect to expose the color. Today we see the fractured rocks making frame the panoramic views. And not feel further push to contemplate and take good pictures. One of the most famous viewpoints of this mountainous area is about 25 kilometers along Provincial Route 73, from the city of Humahuaca.
